The Perfect Parental Heist

Today, I (Curt) was with the boys and needed to do some Christmas shopping. How in the world was I going to pull this off? My babysitter was not available. And the count down is on I had to make my move. Let me clarify by heist I meen that I was able to buy christmas toys in front of the boys and they had no idea. We went to Toys-R-Us the boys were really excited. I had not yet made a plan. My first plan was to leave them in the car... Twenty years ago that would have been fine- but not today and not in broad daylight. So in we went. Jack was jumping around and Cade was so excited he could not talk. I asked them what it was they wanted again for Christmas... They walked around and I would simply grab the paper-- for video games you cannot get the game until after you pay for it-- Now I realize this could not have worked if I had actual toys, but as I reached the checkout I told the boys to sit on a bench by the doors and wait. They did with little wrestling and some crying later a worker put the games in a bag-- I was even holding Jack at the time-- And he handed me the bag, we went to the car, the boys got in -- and wa-laa I pulled it off without a hitch. They asked me why we went and how come we did not buy anything-- If they only knew. This totally makes up for my Wal-mart blunder 10 years ago- that is another story.

The Big Cryer Party

Na-Naw and Paw-paw had their 60th Anniversary. Mom planned a program with music detailing the lives of my grandparents. Many of the family members participated in singind and dancing.

Grandma Cryer wanted the great grandchildren to dance for Na-Naw. Only two of the great granchildren decided to honor her request.
"So you think you can dance?"
Eventually Cade got into the action and danced with Allison

Jack decided to break dance while family members performed

so after several changes to my california travel assignment and finally it falling through it took a while to find something else. i had several contracts the were "sure to happen" and didn't go through so i told my agent to find me a job anywhere. he suggested alaska. i agreed b/c i didn't really think it would happen. even if i got a job i didn't have a license and after waiting 3 weeks for a license i thought surely any job would be gone. but since the company i am with works closely with alaska board of nursing they gave me a lincese the same day they received my application. the day before thanksgiving (wed) i got a call and was told i would be leaving for alaska on saturday. it seemed surreal. i was in california with my aunt at the time for a 2 day visit. i went back to arizona and curt had the thanksgiving dinner prepared. he had wanted to grill steaks since it was only us and grandma, but grandma insisted curt make a traditional thanksgiving dinner. then she said she didn't want to eat with us (b/c she eats the same thing every day which doesn't include meat). it was kind of funny, but we enjoyed the dinner anyway. curt did a great job. it was nice to sit down to a nice dinner together. i can't remember exactly what curt and i said we were grateful for - but we are certainly thankful for our family, health and the opportunities and trials of 2009. jackson said he was grateful for family and video games. cade said he was grateful for his family, friends and bacon.
friday was spent hanging out with the family. the boys planned it and decided they wanted to go see fantastic mr. fox. they liked the movie and i had a great time just being with them. i finished packing and got ready to leave the next evening. saturday morning we hung out together and then curt and the boys brought me to the airport saturday evening. i'm scared about leaving the boys, but they should be coming to visit in the next couple weeks. plus before they come here to visit they are flying to texas to visit the family - so hopefully there will be so much going on they won't notice that i'm gone.
i was really worried about the weather in alaska. i guess i thought my body would just freeze up as soon as i stepped off the plane. i sat by a lady from anchorage on the plane so i had a little over an hour to grill her with all my questions about alaska as we flew from yuma to phoenix. i asked everything - my usual. glad curt wasn't there because he says i always ask too many questions and too many personal questions to people i don't know. maybe he's right, but if you were going to live somewhere that has snow all the time wouldn't you have a lot of questions? so i asked about what to wear and where to eat and what to do for fun and do people drive really slowly because of the ice. but most importantly do people wear heels (what am i going to wear to church) and do people wear special underwear/long johns under there clothes? she laughed when i asked about the underwear. i learned that people don't wear layers unless they know they're going to be outside for a while. if you're just running around town then normal clothes with a coat and maybe gloves and a hat. i haven't seen any people in heels yet, but that doesn't mean i won't eventually try it. love my heels. so when i got off the plane i completely forgot about worrying about the cold because i could see all the beautiful snow everywhere and just wanted to get out there. it looked like a winter wonderland. i was so EXCITED! i drove slowly with one hand on the wheel and one hand clicking pictures on my camera. i spent the next day driving around looking at the scenery and getting stuff to set up in my hotel room. it was amazing to just walk out of target and see snow covered mountains in the background.

monday night was my first night at work. everyone seems nice and the job seems really laid back - more on the job later. all the rooms have big windows and the views are beautiful. this is a snowman that a patient's family built outside her window for her to look out and see. yes, he is wearing an isolation gown.

in the early morning of the shift one of the nurses ran down to our end and told everyone there was a mama and baby moose in front of the hospital. i RAN to the window and tried to get a look. i stepped outside to try to get a picture, but stayed close to the door (everyone says the moose are more dangerous than bears). by then the baby had walked around the corner and i just watched the mom and couldn't believe how big she was until someone said the mom had gone around the corner and that was actually baby! we caught up with them behind the hospital i got some pics with my camera. not the best pics, but still very cool.

i've had my eye on these silver hunter boots for a while, but couldn't call them a necessity while living in the desert. i decided alaska was the perfect reason to get them. i love them. they are perfect for walking around here, but also a little stylish. i have to say they have caused quite a stir. i've gotten a lot of compliments on them. last night i went to dinner with some nurses i met form work. a lot of people were there. one guy complimented my boots, others weren't sure what to think. one guy called them "moon boots" which caught on and will probably follow me forever. i really had no idea anyone would care about my shoes so much, but i do love them so they will remain a staple in my wardrobe.

i'm missing my family already, but they will be here soon. every night when i talk to the boys they ask when they can come to alaska and see the snow. i was somehow scheduled for a week off over the christmas holiday so it will be an awesome break and i can't wait for curt and the boys to visit. i'm so excited for them to see the scenery and especially the snow!

just catching up - november has been such a busy month. scott and kandace came to visit. we climbed antelope hill and took them to geronimos (the must do's if you're visiting wellton)i got a babysitter one night and the four of us went out to eat and to a movie which was nice to get out.
i've only climbed it once with the boys and we didn't go all the way to the top. this time we went to the top which was a great workout and fun, but i was worried for the boys coming down b/c it seemed to steep and easy to kick up rocks. here's scott.grandma.kandace with ringo

antelope hill
scott (the kid magnet) carried jack all the way down the hill since it was so steep.

the 1st grade had a thanksgiving presentation. so cute. cade told me he just sang songs, but didn't have a speaking part. actually he did. curt had been practicing with cade for weeks, but cade wanted to surprise me. cade was an indian and he was supposed to give corn to the pilgrims and say something like here is this delicious corn we picked for you. he was so articulate and LOUD. it was so cute. the audience started laughing b/c he yelled so loudly and cade loved it. i could tell he was proud of himself and i was of course extremely proud. he has to work so hard for things that seem to come so easy for others that i am always so crazy proud and happy for him when he has his accomplishments.

jack was so cute. he took pictures with my camera the entire time cade was on stage. i have about 50 uncentered, unfocused pics of the stage. i loved how jack was so intent on getting pics of his brother. the flash was going off about every second or two.
